News & Events

(Sudbury, Ontario) – October is Community Support Month and part of the festivities include a Provincially recognized Meals On Wheels Week that runs from October 4th –10th. The Ontario Community Support Association says Meals On Wheels programs are one of the few bright points in Ontario’s community care system. This week marks the incredible work done by Meals On Wheels organizations across the Province.

Meals On Wheels (Sudbury) is doing its part to support the festivities. Everyday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. during the entire workweek of October 4th, Meals On Wheels (Sudbury) will be hosting a series of mini-workshops for its volunteers on a variety of different events. Some are education oriented, while some are aimed at having fun (see attached schedule for full details).

In addition to our volunteer workshops, Meals On Wheels (Sudbury) will be hosting a “Wheels to Meals” on October 8, 2004 from 12:00-3:00 pm. at 1127 Bancroft Drive in the gymnasium. “Wheels to Meals” is a congregate dining program for our clients and volunteers aimed at getting our clients out in the community. During this event, not only will participants enjoy a delicious meal, but there will also be live entertainment, the official unveiling of our Public Service Announcement and an awards presentation; including the Carmelita Thompson Caring Award, an annual award recognizing one volunteer that puts that little extra touch in volunteering, but provides and immeasurable benefit to our clients.

Meals On Wheels (Sudbury) would like to invite members of the public and the media to attend the “Wheels to Meals” event on October 8, 2004. For more information on the workshops or the Wheels to Meals event, please contact:
