Meals On Wheels (Sudbury) is pleased to announce that on Wednesday October 13, 2004, Madeleine Génier, a trusted Meals On Wheels (Sudbury) volunteer, was selected by the City of Greater Sudbury to receive a Civic Award for Volunteerism. Mayor David Courtmanche and Ward 4 Councillor Ron Dupuis presented Madeleine and other Civic Award winners with their awards prior to the October 13th Council Meeting. Other Civic Award Winners for Volunteerism included Stan Finnson, Laurel and Jillian Ashick-Stinson, Chris Sheridan and Lucienne Prévost.
Madeleine began volunteering at Meals On Wheels in 1998 as a volunteer driver, delivering meals to homes. However, more recently, she has taken on many special event projects, such as our annual fundraiser and continually working in the gardens here at Minnow Lake Place.
While we at Meals On Wheels are proud to call her one of our volunteers, Madeleine’s volunteer work extends well beyond our efforts here at Meals On Wheels. As a volunteer with the Red Cross, sitting on the Disaster Workgroup Committee, Madeleine makes use of her story telling abilities to help school aged children enhance their safety awareness. She is also a regular visitor at the school her grandchildren attend, where students and teachers alike eagerly await her next visit.
Madeleine is full of life, has a great sense of humour, and has energy unparalleled by people only half her age. But most importantly for our community, she is passionate about volunteering, saying, “it keeps me mentally and physically fit and I like helping others.” There are no better reasons to volunteer than those. Congratulations Madeleine and keep up the good work! |
