On the afternoon of Friday November 18, 2004, a small group gathered at Meals On Wheels (Sudbury) to formally present the Carmelita Thompson Caring Award to the 2004 recipient Ann Armitage.
The small group that was in attendance was comprised of staff, a few volunteers, as well as Reid Thompson (pictured awarding Ann Armitage the 2004 Carmelita Thompson Caring Award), husband of Carmelita Thompson. Ann was introduced as the 2004 Carmelita Thompson Award Winner at both a Wheels to Meals event in October, as well as at our International Passport 7th Annual Fundraiser early in November, but was never formally presented the award.
Ann had been nominated for this award previously, but turned it down, sighting that she didn’t feel she deserved it. This year, however, there was little question as to who this year’s award winner would be. True to Ann’s style, she requested a small gathering and nothing too flashy. After all she has given this organization, how could we argue?
Ann, you deserve every little bit of the praise and thanks that this award entails. Thank you for your 15 years of dedicated volunteering and congratulations!
